Bird of Paradise are beautiful structural plants that do best in direct sun. They rarely flower indoors, but make great easy care houseplants for very bright environments. Shop all Bird of Paradise.


Light: 

  • One of the few indoor plants that prefers direct sun 
  • Needs at least 3 hours of direct sun to survive, or 4-6 hours of direct sun to thrive 
  • Best directly in front of a South or West window

Water: 

  • Flexible on the watering schedule  - can also tolerate periods of drought 
  • Water roughly every 10-14 days
  • Likes to dry out a couple inches between waterings - be careful not to overwater 

Humidity

  • Average household humidity is fine

Soil Type: 

  • A well draining indoor mix with lots of perlite and worm castings 

Toxicity Level: 

  • Toxic to animals 

Additional Information:

  • Leaves tend to collect dust - wipe with a wet microfiber cloth or soft duster monthly 
  • Best to rotate plant to ensure even growth on both sides 
  • Splitting leaves is normal - splits are an evolutionary adaptation of the plant that allow wind to pass through the leaves
