Coconut Palm Care

Coconut Palms make interesting houseplants for full sun environments. They can produce coconuts, but must eventually be brought outdoors since they can grow extremely large. 

Light: 

  • Requires full sun
  • Aim for at least 6 hours of direct sun a day 

Water: 

  • Consistently moist conditions (does not like to dry out)
  • Very thirsty; water 1-2 times a week
  • Great for those who tend to overwater 

Humidity

  • Humidity is super beneficial 

Soil Type: 

  • Can grow in a variety of substrates
  • Indoor potting mix with sand and vermiculite 
  • Eventually will need at least a ten gallon pot 

Toxicity Level: 

  • Toxic to animals 

Additional Information:

  • Benefits from being under a grow light during the winter months 
  • Heavy feeders; monthly fertilization year round is beneficial

West-facing light

East-facing light is low to moderate light for plants. We highly recommend supplementing with grow lights for any plants you place away from your East-facing window.

North-facing Light

North-facing light is the lowest light possible for plants. In low light plants need less water and can be difficult to care for. We highly recommend supplementing with grow lights for any plants you place away from your North-facing window.
