Nice to meet you,
You might have met me or my husband at your local "Maker's Market" or antiques fair, or maybe found our stuff online or at your friend's house. Either way we're glad you're here! Nice to meet you.
My name is María Blum-Sullivan, and I am the artist behind Plant Chandeliers. I often say that Plant Chandeliers is a project "born out of hope." It began at a time when I was fighting postpartum depression, trying to find income to stay home with my daughter through her first year, and coming to terms with my anxiety about our current political reality. I was desperate and looking to find a way forward for myself and for my family. I had been a community organizer before I got pregnant, and before that, a designer. I had always been very wrapped up in the identities that come with those careers, and both were hard to part with, especially as a new mom.
My husband and I had the kind of year where everything that could go wrong, did. I discovered a way to cope through gardening, and that's kind of how I got obsessed with plants. All of them! From wildflowers to cacti to tropical house plants, then I got my first air plants and everything changed. I care about what happens to people and nature. So, finding ways to re-use items like chandeliers that I've literally found in the garbage at times, and creating art with a vision, helps me feel like I am making a small contribution while creating a business that has allowed me to care for my daughter who is almost 2 now!
We have a newly designed website, and, we're trying something new with our business: every month, we will feature an entirely brand new collection of chandeliers, incredible blooming air plants, and terrariums! (terrari-i?). Everything is one of a kind and made by me. You can shop online or find us at markets around the Bay Area. I'd love to meet you!
